Isole Eolie - Vulcano

The disgusting mud bath

Black sand among my toes...

Vulcano is a small volcanic island (21 km in area) and the one they say is the most characteristic of the islands. It contains several volcanic centers with volcanic activity also in the sea where the water is literally boiling.

I am sure it would had been nice to climb up on the top of one of the volcano's to see the spectacular view but I didn't manage to do that as out time was restricted by the boat trip.

Instead we walked from the port, passing one of the mud baths and some black beaches. Thanks to the terrible smell from the mud bath I didn't enjoy my stay at Vulcano island. I honestly felt like vomiting. It is volcanis clays filled with brown mud that should be good for your skin. The only problem is that the smell is horrible and that it stays on your skin for days and some times even weeks.

I had a swim in the sea at one of the black beaches, the water was warmer than usual and it was cool to see the fine black sand under the crystal clear water.
