The Longest Ride

Andra filmer/böcker av samma romantiska författare som jag uppskattat är; Message in a bottle, A walk to remeber, the last song och Dear John.

För den som är sugen på lite romantik och eventuellt att få gråta en skvätt skulle jag absolut rekommendera The Longest ride.

The way - A fantastic movie

Fancy watching a good movie? Then I can recommend you a movie called "The Way". I really enjoyed it. One of those honestly nice and thoughtful films!

The movie Force Majeure

Yesterday the Swedish movie “Force Majeure” (called “Turisten” in Swedish) won six honors including best film and best director at Sweden's version of the Oscars, Guldbaggegalan. Force Majeure did not get an Oscar nomination but picked the best foreign film honor at the Critics Choice Awards, it won the Jury prize at the Cannes 2014 film festival. It was nominated to the fest foreign language film at the Golden Globe awards. Well, I can go on forever with all the prizes and nominations the film has taken home lately and you now will believe that it must be an incredibly fantastic movie….

Together with my boyfriend I saw the movie last Friday and we were both very disappointed. It was honestly a boring movie. The whole plot it about one scene; the second day in the alps for a Swedish/Norwegian family that during lunch threatens of a controlled avalanche and the dad of the family panics and runs away, leaving his wife and kids behind. No one is hurt and the father quickly returns to the table. The rest of the movie talks about this scene, the father’s reaction and his disappointed wife. That’s it, for two hours. And this movie wins I don’t know how many prices and I just can’t believe my eyes as for me this movie was absolutely nothing special. My boyfriend, colleagues and some friends agrees with me but anyway the movie wan it all and all I can say is, congratulations Force Majeure!

Sleepover weekend

It is Sunday and the weekend is already over, it just flew away and I haven't really done much. But I have relaxed and spent time with good friends and family and for sure I needed that after few days of turbulence.

On Friday I went to Amanda who's in Sweden a couple of weeks for an extraordinary evening, night and morning together. It was just Amanda, myself and her two kids. Billy is now 2 years old and Lucy 5 months, I can assure you that means hard work and great patience. But these two kids are adorable and I love to play around with them. I stayed over at Amanda's place so at 6am the morning after we got up, got ready and went out for a long walk in the morning sun.

In the afternoon I went to my mum's to celebrate Bosse's birthday. His birthday was last weekend when I was in Tallinn but as I was away my dad and I decided to celebrate him this weekend instead so we had a nice lunch everyone together.

In the evening Laura came over to my place and together we cried like two babies while watching the fantastic movie "A walk to remember".

This morning we had a big breakfast before Laura left and I went to my yoga. Tonight I have been to my first lesion in rope climbing which was very fun and interesting but I will write more about that another time.

Good night!

My brilliant weekend

My new colleagues and I at Cafe Opera
My weekend started off at 5pm on Friday afternoon when three of my sweet colleagues and I went to the fancy club Cafe Opera for the "soul train after work". I had heard so much about it but never been there, now I have. It was interesting. It didn't feel we were in Sweden at all. A mix of ages between 20 and 60 years old were dancing and mingling around with complete strangers already at 6 o'clock in the afternoon. I say it didn't feel like Sweden as here in Stockholm the clubs normally neither mixes people of different ages and people wouldn't dance before they get very drunk in the late evening. But now I know that it is different on friday evenings at Cafe Opera.

Unfortunately I couldn't stay very long as I quite early had to move on to an international event at Collage. It was the group Internations that organized the event and it was actually my first time I attended one of their happenings here in Stockholm but as you might now I used to join frequently Internations in Milan when I lived there. It was Johanna, Arancha, Cicci, Laura and I that went together and it was well organized with people from absolutely all over the world.

Saturday evening was a bit more relaxed. I met up with a friend for a very good pizza and a pop by the cinema. We saw the movie Her. Even if it won an oscar I didn't expect it to be very good but it was... interesting. Very interesting. I have actually though a lot about if afterwards and I love movies that makes me reflect about things.

Today Sunday has been just lazy. I went to my yoga class this morning and afterwards I took a long walk (actually I got lost so the walk got very very long) to Enskede ridskola - a riding club like 30 minutes walk (2 subway stops) away from where I live. I sat in the sun watching girls running around with their horses and I even managed to see part of a pony jumping competition. Do I need to say how bloody much I miss riding. I am thinking to sign up... but then, once again, I wonder when I gonna have time for it?

Week 10 in pictures

I have been ridiculously bad at blogging this week and I am sorry for that. At the same time I don't believe blogging should be an added stress in my life, it shouldn't be a must do but something I do with pleasure when I have time. And that is the thing, to find time for it.

However this Marliina-blog has become a ture part of my life so I won't close it but I might just add new blog posts a couple of times a week further on.

Here below follows some pictures from this week...

Monday, cosy and yammi dinner at Zarah's place.

Tuesday (called The Fat Tuesday) was all about the Swedish bakeries "Semlor" which by tradition  the Swedes eats one Tuesday a year, normally in the end of February. It is a sweet bun with almond paste and wipped cream. I don't really like it to be honest but I better not say it out loud as everyone seems to love it.
Anyway my consultant agency nicely sent me 50 "semlor" to share with my colleague at the bank and I had a piece of one. Then the same evening I went for dinner at my mum's that also had mini-semlor so I had another one. Now for sure I won't fancy even seeing semlor for another year.
Thursday I went crossfitting efter work and straight from there I met up with my dad to try a Swedish restaurant both of us have been talking about for a while, Stekpannan. It actually was as good as we thought it would be. Delicious Swedish food and nice atmosphere.

On Friday I was invited for dinner and movie evening with Oscar's theme at Anna and Håkan's place. We ate homemade soup, drank real champagne and saw the Oscar winner movie, Dallas Buyers Club. I didn't have high expectations but the movie was actually very good.

Saturday evening instead was all about the Swedish euro vision final. Sara, myself and Erika had dinner at Erika's place celebrating her birthday, ate Erika's speciality chocolate cake and watched the funny final. Great evening even if the totally wrong song won. As always.

Oh I have forgot to say the spring has arrived also to Stockholm. Or at least the Swedes calls it Spring time. We have got blue sky, 10 degrees and a splendid sun. Even if I don't call 10 degrees for spring temperatures I get equally happy and energetic of having the sun shining without a cloud on the sky. This Sunday morning I had yoga and then lunch with my dad and then in the afternoon I went for a over two hours walk in the Årsta forest and along the sea. So beautiful.

A quite good week, right? :)

Hello Sunday!

I find it so sweet when some of you sends me e-mails when I don't post anything on the blog for some days. I really get emotionally touched that people that I don't even know cares about me, it's just amazing.

I don't have a good reason for not updating the blog for some time, I have just been very busy. It has been a hectic week with hard decisions to take, many interviews to attend, tests to do, people to meet and keeping up with my training.

Friday was a quite bad day, I got bad news and was in a really bad mood the whole day. Not even my favorite zumba class managed to share me up, then you can get it was a really bad day, heh? Thanks god for my parents and my friends Zarah, Cicci and Niklas that did all they could to cheer me up and managed made me end the day with a smile on my face before heading to bed.
In the evening I went to the cinema for the premier of Frozen in 3D. I don't have a clue why it came out this late on the cinemas in Sweden as UK and Italy released it long before Christmas. However in Sweden the premier was this Friday and obviously I had tickets to it. I have been waiting for that movie since Luisa visited me in November and told me how fantastic the film was. Unfortunately my expectations were to high and I got a bit disappointed, but it was sweet and gave me some good laughs.

Yesterday was a much better day. I started it off with a good body pump class at Globen. Then I went to town shopping some things I need for my upcoming ski trip and I also managed to meet up Dario and Elisa for a lovely fresh mint tea at Cafe Schweizer. I had never been to that place before but it immediately jumps in on my toplist for coffee places in Stockholm.

In the evening Cicci and I had a tacco dinner and watched the first quarter final of the Swedish eurovision song contact. I can admit that I expected nothing from it and maybe therefor I was happily surprised that I liked the show. Or actually I hated the show itself with bad tv presenters and crap jokes but the artists and the songs were really good. It was a great mix of music styles, voices, clothing and performances.

Today its Sunday and its raining outside so I guess Stockholm will loose all the beautiful white snow we have been having for some time. Too bad, because this week coming I have two Italian visitors coming to Stockholm and I would have loved to show them a snowy Stockholm...

Cinema night - Hundraåringen

Me out walking with Tobii this morning :)
Went with Laura to the cinema tonight to see "Hundraåringen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann" (The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared). It is a strange film title but the movie was really beautiful and pleasant. It was a different kind of feel-good movie that really gave me many laughters. It is about coincidences in life, how one thing can lead to another when you less expect it. It is about enjoy every moment in life and see the positive in everything that appears.

I expected a good movie but it was much better than that. It gave me something more than just a funny comedy movie. As the book with the same title was a great success I will for sure read it, not now but in few months time. I bet it is a fantastic book.

Night in with Cicci and Laura

I spent the whole day out walking around all over so what could be a better idea than to spend the night in with two great girls. Cicci and I had dinner and then Laura joined for the movie: Take thais waltz. Such strange movie. Neither of us really liked it (actually we found it boring and was close to turn it off) but reading online I can see it got great critics. Weird.

Love actually and X-factor UK final 2013

Love Actually is one of my favorite movies and The movie I just have to watch every year around Christmas. It is such sweet and romantic movie that gives the ultimate Christmas spirit.
Yesterday Cicci and I decided to have a cosy night in so we first watched Love actually and then went on to see the X Factor UK final 2013. I have "kind of" been following the X Factor UK the whole season having my same two favorites from day 1; Tamara Foster and Nicholas Mcdonald - two pure singers. The Swedish Idol didn't have a single voice even close to theirs...

However Tamara was voted out a couple of weeks ago while Nicholas ended up on the second place and sang the amazing "flying without wings" together with Shane from Westlife in the final. (see the second video below).

The winner of the X Factor UK was Sam Bailey who I can admit got an adorable voice but I am not convinced about her star factor. In Sweden a charming star without voice won the Idol while in UK an amazing voice but with less charm won :-)

The winner song!

2nd Hunger games movie - Catching fire

The Hunger Games!
The book trilogy that cached my heart. I don't like neither science fiction books or movies but the storyline in these books really attracted me and even if it was some time ago I read them I remember them perfectly. The books won many awards and even the first movie received very positive critics.

You can read here what I though about the first movie...

Yesterday Stephanie (my very sweet Swiss study-mate) and I went to the cinema to see the second Hunger Game-movie, Catching fire. You might be surprised when I say that I loved it.
I don't know if it was the experience to go to the cinema (first time in maybe 6 months that I go), or that I didn't have any great expectations or, if it actually was a fantastic movie that made me enjoying every second of it, but I just loved it.

The film is 2,5 hours long, we went quite late in the evening and before the movie I was afraid to fall asleep during the film as it is so long but I absolutely didn't.
2,5 hours passed as it would had been 30 minutes and kept both of us thrilled from the beginning until the end.

Four good movies and two great ones

From time to time I like to add good, interesting or just very particular movies to the blog to share it with you readers. I am a big movie lover and as often as I can I like to watch some new ones. Here are five of the best I have seen in the last few weeks:

 Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
I honestly don't know how many prices this film as won but I know it it loads. I am not sure I can understand its massive success but well, it is a good movie. The first half was not so good but the second part of the film cached up and made it all a good sense. This is a romantic comedy drama but I wouldn't say it is neither that funny or that very romantic but for sure it is a psychological drama. It is a different film and I spilled some tears when I saw it. It was good even if maybe I expected more of it...
My rate: (m m m m )

Wonderlust (2012)
Even if this comedy was nothing special I liked it a lot. It was truly a "feel good movie" and I laughed a lot. Jennifer Aniston is one of my favorite actresses and she was as great as always in this film. This is an easy and funny film that for sure makes everyone smile.
My rate: ( m m m )

Cruel intentions (1999)
Do you remember this movie? I hardly didn't. I just remembered that I saw it my last year of high school and that I felt in love with the actor Ryan Phillip after I had seen it :-)
In the beginning of the month, when I was home with fever, a friend came by and brought this film with him and we saw it together. I didn't remember much of it but it was really good. The story, the characters and the end, everything is just great.
My rate: ( m m m m )

What to expect when you´re expecting (2012)
This was a one big funny movie. It is all about kids and thoughts around having babies. I didn't know before starting watching it, I just wanted to see a new movie with my favorite Cameron Diaz actually, otherwise I think I wouldn't had seen it I guess. But once starting it I couldn't turn it off. It was fun, cute and quite emotional. Cameron Diaz is as good as always in this movie and I was happy also to see Chance Crawford doing well. Not sure I can say this movie made me feel very good but at least it made me both laugh and cry.
My rate: ( m m m + )

Then the two great movies:

Dear John (2010)
This is one of the most romantic movies I have ever seen. Just adorable.
It is another Lasse Hallström movie and it is made out of the book with the same name of Nicholas Spark. One of my favorite directors and one of my favorite writes, couldn´t be anything else than a really good combination. A true Marie movie that made me think a lot, laugh and cry.
My rate: ( m m m m m )

And the best one...

Flight (2012)
I totally loved this film. Denzel Washington is as always terrific. The story is sad but amazing. The pictures are good. It is a drama and not a feel good movie at all, but it is one of those movies with great quotes that stays on your mind. The kind of film that makes you think a little extra after the movie about what you have just seen, of what message the movie actually wanted to give. You should all see this one.
My rate: ( m m m m m )

Safe Haven - the movie

Official trailer

I saw the film "Safe Haven" the other day. It is an American romantic drama and I truly enjoyed it. It was romantic, sweet and also a bit scary.

Safe Haven is an adaption of Nicholas Spark's novel with the same name. Do you remember the amazing movies "The horse whisper" and "Dear John"? They were also created out of Nicholas Spark's books so when Safe Haven was released in America in February this year I immediately wanted to see it. Safe Haven was like Dear John directed by the Swedish master film director Lasse Hallström.

Julianne Hough, the main acress in this movie, was great. I don't know who it is actually but she remembered me of my absolute favorite actress Cameron Diaz. They have the same charm or something.
